Vienna, Georgia- Dooly County High School has named Donna Peavy as the new head girls flag football coach. Peavy previously coached the DCHS girls fastpitch softball team and currently serves as the Dooly County Middle School Athletic Director. She has over two decades of coaching experience and is extremely excited about this role. Peavy played flag football herself in college at Valdosta State. She led her team to the Georgia Intramural State Flag Football Championship and the Flag Football Nationals in New Orleans in 1987. Coach Peavy is married to Mr. Jeff Peavy, with whom she shares three beautiful children: Eason, Alex, and Julia. She also has three grandchildren: Eden, Judah, and Abram. She loves spending time with her family as she loves athletics. She has been involved in athletics since she was in the fifth grade. When asked about becoming the head girls flag football Coach Peavy stated, “I’ve always been very passionate about sports. I played flag football in college. We won the Georgia Intramural State Championship, so I have a strong background in flag football. I believe that athletics can complete the total child. I think what they learn from being on a team is when they go out into the real world and get a job, they become a team player. They are on time; their work ethic allows them to keep their job. I have a quote that I live by, “academics will get you the job, athletics will help you keep the job!” Needless to say, I’m very excited about being the head flag football coach and look forward to a fantastic year️!” We feel extremely fortunate to have Coach Peavy as the head girls flag football coach. She brings extensive experience, structure, and passion. The season begins on October 18, 2022.

Therefore, the Dooly K-8 Academy must be closed on Thursday, August 11th for students, faculty and staff. Dooly K8 faculty and staff will receive directions from school administration regarding work responsibilities. Dooly County High School will remain open for school. All high school students, faculty and staff should report to DCHS on August 11th. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

MEDIA ADVISORY Ed-Flex Program Dooly County-New for the 2022-2023 school year, the state of Georgia is allowing school districts to submit waivers under the Ed-Flex Program. Through Ed-Flex, The U.S. Department of Education (Secretary) delegates to eligible State Education Agencies (SEAs) the authority to waive certain statutory or regulatory education requirements that may impede local efforts to reform and improve education. Ed-Flex is designed to help Local Education Agencies (LEAs), or school districts, carry out educational reforms and raise the achievement of all students. Ed-Flex is authorized under the Education Flexibility Partnership Act of 1999 and was reauthorized under the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) in 2015. The Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE) met the eligibility criteria as an SEA and is offering its school districts to apply for waivers over a five year period. LEAs must apply to GaDOE annually for the desired waivers. Participating school districts will have to report annually on the effect of any state approved waivers. For the 2022-2023 school year, we are pursuing the below waivers from the Georgia Department of Education (GaDOE). Waiver of Title I, Part A Limitation on Carryover – ESSA Section 1127(a) (unspent Title I, Part A FY2022 funds carried over to FY 2023 If approved, this waiver would allow all unspent Title I, Part A funds from school year 2021-2022 to return to the school district next year. In the past, the amount returned could not exceed 15% of the previous year’s allocation. After reviewing these waiver requests, please submit any feedback or questions you have to terrie.lockhart@dooly.k12.ga.us. This institution is an equal opportunity provider. The Mission of Dooly County Schools, in partnership with parents and the community, is to provide educational excellence for all students. For more information, please contact the Office of Federal Programs at 229-268-4761 or terrie.lockhart@dooly.k12.ga.us.
