During last week’s District Leadership Team meeting, the following DCSS leaders were recognized for their participation, contributing thoughts, and leadership during the month of August. Game balls of the month were given to Mr. Rodney Daniels (Dooly County K8 Assistant Principal) and Ms. Latorri West (DCSS Instructional Specialist). The “committed to growth” plant was presented to Mrs. Carla Mahone (Pre-K Director/Intervention Teacher). Harvest of the Month (HOTM) is the Georgia Department of Education School Nutrition Division’s farm to school initiative that highlights an item each month that can be sourced locally and served in Georgia’s school meals. This initiative encourages collaboration between School Nutrition Programs, farmers, teachers, and their communities.

FYI: The Dooly County Health Department has extended their hours on Tuesday, July 25th & Thursday, July 27th till 7 p.m. for "Back to School" vaccinations.

Dooly County Schools kicked off the 2024 school year with a new hire/teacher orientation at the Dooly K-8 Academy on Thursday, July 20th. We thank GAE and PAGE for providing breakfast and lunch. We also thank our community partners (Middle GA EMC, Dooly Co. Extension Office, Cadence Bank, Dooly County Chamber, Dooly County Family Connection, Gateway Center, Ellis Pecans, City of Unadilla, and the City of Vienna) for the great "swag bags" for our new teachers. We are excited and ready for the new school year.

Dr. Sherrod Willaford named Interim Superintendent of Dooly County School System
On June 22, 2023, the Dooly County Board of Education unanimously approved Dr. Sherrod Willaford as Interim Superintendent of the Dooly County School System. Dr. Willaford most recently served as Assistant Superintendent of Schools and Principal of Dooly K-8 Academy. Dr. Willaford is a 26-year veteran educator in public education, having served for 18 years as a public-school administrator. During his career, he previously served as an award-winning, accomplished Principal in Georgia schools and as an Executive Director in Norfolk, Virginia Public Schools for three years. Under his leadership, he led the elementary and middle schools to being successfully removed from the GaDOE Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI) list of lowest performing schools in 2022. He is leading the district’s Cognia Accreditation process that will take place in 2023-24 and oversees the current facility and athletic upgrades in the district.
“I am honored to serve the students, staff, and families of Dooly County,” stated Dr. Willaford. “I am looking forward to continuing to work with the local governance team and keep moving the district in a forward direction.”
Dr. Willaford has two children and is married to Dr. Chara Willaford, a fellow educator. Dr. Willaford received his Bachelor’s degree from Clark Atlanta University. He earned his Master’s degree and a Doctorate of Education in School Improvement from the University of West Georgia. Dr. Willaford is also a graduate of the first cohort of the nationally renowned AASA Superintendent’s Program and is a member of the Georgia School Superintendent’s Association.

Please be advised that Free Summer Meals for all Dooly County Children ages 18 & Younger are available now, Monday, June 19th, for pick up at the Dooly County Schools Annex, 201 9th ST, Vienna. We have one pallet left. We will bring the boxes to your vehicles so that you don't have to get wet. Come on down now!

With the threat of potentially severe thunderstorms today, Wed., June 14th, DCSS will postpone the Book Bus scheduled for the Vienna Park and Pinehurst bus route. Updates to come.
