welcome

July 15, 2021

Dear Bobcat Families,

Welcome to the 2021-22 school year! School starts July 28th, and we are so excited to see our Baby Bobcats in person this year! Here are a few updates as we get started:

This evening, the Dooly County Board of Education unanimously approved the purchase of all bookbags and supplies this year! All students need to bring is a positive mindset and a desire to learn. If by chance the materials are not here by July 28t h, no worries; we will take care of our students and push forward in true Bobcat fashion.

We will follow the most updated protocol for COVID-19 and adjust accordingly . We encourage all students ages 12 and over to get vaccinated to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. In keeping with CDC mandates, masks are currently still required on public transportation, and this applies to school buses. Therefore, all students must bring masks to schools. Fully vaccinated persons ages 12 and up do not have to wear masks. Those under age 12 are strongly recommended to wear masks, but this is not required unless school administration and/or teachers direct students to do so for safety reasons.

Dooly County School System is a Tier 4 school system, which means our previous test scores place us in the lowest 5% for academic achievement in the state. We must work together to change this. Our teachers and staff are receiving impactful professional learning to better support our students, but we need parental engagement to ensure students are reading nightly, doing their homework, and getting adequate rest. We need students at school on time every day, and we are always glad to see them.

Disciplinary issues and anything that distracts from learning will not be tolerated. Please review the 2021-22 Student Handbook/Code of Conduct once schools give you access. We really want your child to be successful with us, but we must protect the entire student body, faculty/staff, and the school system as a whole. Reminders and frequent talks about "Being the Best Bobcat You Can Be" go a long way. Trust me, your children listen to you.

Lastly, please make sure that your phone numbers, emails, and addresses (physical and mailing) are up-to-date with the schools. Communication is essential, and we will communicate with you through SchoolMessenger, our website at www.dooly.k12.ga.us. the DCSS School app (located on the website), letters, notes, and various other school/teacher methods. If you have followed the chain-of-command to no avail, feel free to contact me at 229-313-8146 or on the Office of the Superintendent feedback site at  www.dooly.k12.ga.us/page/superintendents-office. Your thoughts and needs are important, and we want you to know that your voice has been heard.

We are looking forward to a wonderful New School Year. Dooly is Dedicated, Determined, Dominant, and Dynamic! This is Dooly, and we are Headed to the TOP (Time of Prosperity)!!!

Respectfully,

Dr. Craig Lockhart
