Dear Parents,
I am writing this letter to inform you of a situation that occurred in our school today. At approximately 1:55 p.m., a teacher called to report that a student may be in possession of a “toy weapon” at school. Upon hearing the teacher’s concern, the administration and our school resource officer, began to conduct an investigation to confirm or deny the teacher’s report. We immediately located the student and retrieved the weapon, a small handgun. Working alongside the Dooly County Sheriff’s Department and our school resource officer, we continued to investigate the incident. The student will be disciplined according to the Student Code of Conduct. In addition, law enforcement is also addressing the matter. No one was harmed, and student safety and learning as was not impacted. School will be in session for the remainder of this week and for the rest of the school year.
With that said, the purpose of this correspondence is to ensure that you know your child’s safety is of our priority, and we will not tolerate anything that is disruptive or threatening to them. Please be assured that we are following all school system policies and rules in this matter. We will take swift and sure action for any student who acts in a manner to threaten our safety and good order.

Les escribo esta carta para informarles de una situación que ocurrió en nuestra escuela hoy. Aproximadamente a la 1:55 p.m., un maestro llamó para informar que un estudiante podría estar en posesión de un "arma de juguete" en la escuela. Al escuchar la preocupación del maestro, la administración y nuestro oficial de recursos escolares, comenzaron a realizar una investigación para confirmar o negar el informe del maestro. Inmediatamente localizamos al estudiante y recuperamos el arma, una pequeña pistola. Trabajando junto con el Departamento del Sheriff del condado de Dooly y nuestro oficial de recursos escolares, continuamos investigando el incidente. El estudiante será disciplinado de acuerdo con el Código de Conducta del Estudiante. Además, las fuerzas del orden también se están ocupando del asunto.
