Literacy Leader

Literacy is a foundational component that shapes a student’s entire educational experience. Reading on or above grade level is a critical goal for all students and a key indicator of academic success.

In 2023, the Georgia Department of Education began recognizing schools that demonstrate exceptional growth in literacy through the Literacy Leaders designation. This honor highlights significant grade-level reading growth in 3rd and 6th grades.

In 2025, Dooly County Middle School proudly earned the Literacy Leader Award for 6th Grade Gateway Growth, reflecting a 17.3-point increase in literacy achievement among 6th grade students. In addition, notable growth was recognized in 7th grade English Language Arts. These accomplishments are based on Lexile scores from the English Language Arts Georgia Milestones (ELA GMAS) assessment.

Dooly County Middle School extends sincere appreciation to its teachers, students, parents, and community partners whose dedication and collaboration made this achievement possible.
