Reach Scholars 2023

Congratulations to Sha'Khia Brown and Christian B. Diaz-Calel, recipients of $10,000 Reach Scholarships to help pay for any college of their choice upon graduation from high school.  Professional school counselor, Yolanda Duncan stated that the competition for the scholarships this year was  steep.  There were so many qualified candidates, but only two could be selected.  Christian and Sha'Khia  rose to the top among contestants.

The Dooly County Schools System hosted a Reach Signing Ceremony for the honorees and their families.  The reception included administrators, teachers and community supporters speaking on behalf of the honorees and supporters taking pledges to help support the students throughout their matriculation through high school and college.   To date, Sha'Khia plans to attend the University of Georgia.  Christian is undecided, but expresses that this scholarship will help him attend any college of his choice.

Reach Georgia is a need-based mentoring and scholarship program providing promising students the support to graduate from high school and achieve postsecondary success.  The scholarships are made possible through state public appropriations, state private donations and matching donations from the local communities that serve the REACH Georgia Scholars. Each year the number of awards is determined by funding.  For more information about making contributions or general information about Reach Georgia, please contact Yolanda Duncan, yolanda.duncan@dooly.k12.ga.us or visit https://www.gafutures.org/hope-state-aid-programs/reach-georgia/reach-georgia/ or contact the REACH Georgia staff at the Georgia Student Finance Commission (770) 724-9250.
